Tampines Rovers History

“A group of football enthusiasts from the Tampines district got together to play football and decided to organize themselves into a football club.

Many names and 6 years later, the club settled on Tampines Rovers and has never looked back since.”

“The club started in Division 3A of the Singapore Amateur Football Association League. Playing for the first team were pioneers including George Pasqual, Edmund Perera, Basil De Souza and Justin Morais.”
“With the return of George Pasqual from his studies in USA, the club was revived and from then on the team grew from strength to strength, fighting its way to be one of the top teams in Division One.

The start of the golden years saw the club winning various domestic titles including the SAF Division 2 title.The team boasted famous names such as the Quah brothers – Kim Lye, Kim Siak and Kim Song, Edmund Wee, R. Suriamurthy and Rahmat Mawar, who helped the club clinch the runners-up in the President’s Cup League.”

“Joined by national players Lim Tien Jit, Jai Prakash, Zainol Aibidin and Selvarajan, Tampines Rovers retained the NFL Division 1 champion title after the victory in the previous year.”
“The club tasted the sweet success of winning the NFL Division 1 champion once again with the addition oftalented Rovers such as T. Pathmanathan, V. Sundramoorthy and foreign players Graham Gourley and Simon Kent.”
“Tampines Rovers was one of the pioneer teams in the S-League and put up a credible showing from 1996 to 1998.New coach Chow Kwai Lam revived the team and led the Stags to victory at the Singapore Cup.”
